Gamelan Angklung
June 9 | Berkeley
Since 1979, Berkeley-based Gamelan Sekar Jaya (GSJ) has spearheaded artistic dialogue between Bali and the United States, establishing itself as “the finest Balinese gamelan ensemble outside of Indonesia” (Tempo Magazine, Indonesia). In its debut appearance at the Festival, GSJ will showcase its gamelan angklung ensemble, one of the most popular types of orchestras in Bali, comprising about twenty tightly-knit musicians. Coupled with dancers, GSJ will delight audiences with its rhythmic precision and graceful cheerfulness.
