Seattle Historical Arts for Kids is a place where young people gain community, skill, self-knowledge, and an insiders' experience of past eras through music and related arts. In June 2026 we are launching Recorder from the Ground Up, Miyo Aoki's innovative recorder method for children. This curriculum combines kid-optimized by-ear learning with real music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, when the recorder particularly flourished.
Introducing children and teens to participatory 12th-18th century music, dance, and theater since 2005, SHAK presents year-round instrumental chamber music, annual theatrical projects, and a variety of performing and non-performing historical arts workshops, online since 2020 as well as in person.
